eBART is a proposed BART system expansion into East Contra Costa County. The eBART Proposed Project would extend the BART system in the median of Highway 4 approximately 10 miles eastward from the existing Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station to a new station at Railroad Avenue in Pittsburg and a terminus station east of Hillcrest Avenue in Antioch. Self- propelled rail cars, also known as Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU), are the proposed vehicle technology for eBART. BART recently issued a Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) which considers four project alternatives: the No Project Alternative, Bus Rapid Transit, Light Rail Vehicle, and a classic BART technology. The eBART Partnership represents an exciting collaboration among:

East Contra Costa County is the fastest growing region in the Bay Area, with an expected 40,000 households and 63,000 jobs to be added by 2025. Residents and commuters need effective and convenient rapid transit to reduce congestion on clogged roads. The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is partnering to provide frequent, reliable, and high quality transit service in East County.

BART is nearing the end of the environmental review for the eBART Project. In this review of the East Contra Costa BART Extension, alternatives, impacts and mitigation measures have been studied in detail. Community input continues to be important in the environmental evaluation. BART invites you to review the DEIR and send in your comments. We will be accepting comments on the DEIR through November 5, 2008. For more information on how to share your comments please go to our Comments Page.

The eBART project must balance cost, technology, community needs and environmental benefits and impacts to provide high quality service to East Contra Costa County. Whichever transportation option is selected, service will be coordinated to allow for easy transfers to and from the BART system.
